Contracting Agency: National Park Service SER East MABO

This project consisted of the replacement of both the east and south bridge decks, as well as the drawbridge. The work performed consisted of masonry tuck pointing at the bridge piers and the abutments.

The performance of restoration of bridge hardware included blasting and quality coating.

Environmental controller was put into place for the media blasting of the bridge hardware to avoid any debris from entering the Fort’s moat and potentially impacting marine life. Cofferdams were also installed to delineate the work site and perform work as the moat water levels were raised and lowered. Pavkov worked closely with the NPS Environmental Specialist when raising and lowering the water levels to ensure fresh water was routinely being flushed through the moat, and most importantly, this prevented any adverse effect on the environment and local marine life. Pavkov has a thorough understanding of the importance of minimizing our footprint and the use of BMPs in environmentally sensitive environments.

Additionally, Pavkov worked to accommodate the public as well as NPS staff throughout the project to provide them with uninterrupted access to the Fort. Pavkov achieved this by establishing a chain link fence perimeter around the construction site, as well as constructing temporary bridges, and walkways to provide safe access to Fort Pulaski.
